A Guide to WoW Battleground Rewards

E-mail

Playing in PvP battlegrounds leads to serious rewards.  You get XP very quickly if you play right - it's very easy to go up two levels per day.  But as good as the XP is, the gear is even better.  As you play battlegrounds and gain levels, you'll get access to armor and weapons that are far more powerful than the drops gained in dungeons and on the field.  This article will help new players, especially Horde players, get started on their first PvP gear upgrades.

Each time you play a battleground (whether you win or lose) you'll get:

  • Experience points (XP)
  • Honor points
  • Faction marks

Those latter two rewards can be found on your Character window (where you equip gear) on the Currencies tab.  You use those rewards to buy exclusive gear and items, and you'll be surprised how cheap and powerful PvP gear can be.  Aside from armor and weapons, note the many mana and health potions available.  Buying PvP rewards costs a combination of the three:  Cash, Honor points, and sometimes Faction marks.

Faction marks are like Honor points, but they're specific to the battleground.  Each team has an armed force responsible for managing that part of the war, and that faction's supply officers will accept those marks as payment for supplies.

In terms of actual cash, all the PvP equips and items are very, very cheap; one honor point and a few silver for a good mana potion, for example, or a couple thousand honor points and half a gold for an extremely powerful piece of armor.

Where to Buy PvP Rewards

Every battleground provides Honor Points.  Horde players can spend these by going to Orgrimmar and visiting the Hall of Legends, Alliance players spend them in Stormwind City at the Champions' Hall.

Finding Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar:

Go to the top of the Sky Tower and cross the bridge behind the flight master. Go left toward the Valley of Spirits.  As you're turning right toward that valley, you'll pass the Hall of Legends.

Finding Champions' Hall in Stormwind City:

Go to Old Town and head south.  You'll see wide stairs leading to a gigantic military complex with a sprawling plaza.

At each of those locations, you'll find many different supply officers.  When using one of them to repair your gear, don't forget that your reputation standings will affect your prices.

Battleground-Specific PvP Rewards

Although those two locations above offer a huge amount of wartime shopping, you're not done yet.  You won't find a full PvP upgrade to your gear, nor will you be able to stock up on all the potion options, just by visiting those locations.  Each battleground exists in the world map as an instance, just like the entrances to dungeons and raids.

Horde and Alliance military NPCs are found at each entrance, including supply officers from the battleground-specific factions.  These officers each have unique gear.  From what I've seen, all the faction-specific suppliers have the same potions; but they're different from the potions you find at the central Halls in the capitol cities.

Battleground PvP Rewards and Your Toon's Level

It's worth noting:  You might assume, for example, that Warsong Gulch only has low-to-mid level gear, and Alterac Valley only has mid-to-high level gear.  You'd be wrong.  Be sure to visit all the suppliers when you're shopping for equipment, because they all offer armor and weapons for a wide range of levels.

Horde:  PvP Faction Supplier Locations

I've only got experience with the first three battlegrounds, and I'm all about the Horde; so rather than copying from WoWwiki, I'll just tell you what I know.

  • Warsong Gulch:  In the north end of the Barrens, just south of Mor'shan Rampart (border between Ashenvale and the Barrens).  Look for the cottages south of the military post at the border, then look for two banners surrounding a road that heads east behind the cottages.
  • Arathi Basin:  Go to Hammerfall, in the Arathi Highlands.  The Defilers faction officers are scattered behind the Inn and the flight master.
  • Alterac Valley:  Go to Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills.  Take the road north, but once you start to see frost, cut east.  Look for giant wooden stakes and flags; the Frostwolf officers can be found there.
